Incident Details: Car Rams Into Crowd on Water Street

The incident occurred just after 6 PM on Water Street, one of the parade’s main routes. According to Merseyside Police, the vehicle involved was immediately stopped at the scene, and one man was arrested in connection with the collision. Authorities have yet to confirm the suspect’s identity or motive, but eyewitness reports suggest the act may have been intentional.

Scene of Chaos: Emergency Services Respond Swiftly

Footage from the aftermath shows the street littered with debris behind a police cordon, while multiple emergency services—including police vehicles, ambulances, and a fire engine—rushed to the scene. Several injured individuals received immediate medical attention, with at least one person seen being taken away on a stretcher, and another walking with the support of a police officer.

Eyewitness Recounts the Horror

Among the thousands gathered to celebrate was Herry Rashid, 48, from Solihull, who attended the parade with his wife and two daughters. He described the moment the vehicle sped through the crowd:

“It was about 10 feet away from us,” Rashid said. “The road was narrow and packed. The car came from the right, right next to an ambulance, and then veered into the crowd on our side.”

According to Rashid, the car momentarily slowed down after initial impact before accelerating again, causing further injuries.

“It was very fast. At first, you just heard bangs—pop, pop, pop—like it was hitting people. Then it paused, people started banging on the windows, and then he sped up again and drove right through.”

Panic and Injury Amid the Crowd

The scene quickly turned to chaos, with people screaming and injured fans lying on the ground. Rashid’s daughter cried out in fear as he tried to shield his family.

“It felt deliberate. People were just enjoying the parade—innocent fans, families. There were thousands of us,” he added.

Emergency Services Face Difficulties in Dense Crowd

Although emergency personnel were already stationed nearby, the density of the crowd made maneuvering and aid delivery challenging.

“They tried to help the injured immediately, but it was hard to move. I just wanted to get my kids out of there—I didn’t know if there might be another attack,” Rashid explained.

Official Response and Ongoing Investigation

The Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, were reportedly briefed on the developing situation, according to the PA news agency.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) issued a statement:

“NWAS is responding to an incident in Liverpool City Centre following a road traffic collision. We are currently assessing the situation and working with our emergency service partners. Our priority is ensuring those affected receive urgent medical attention.”

Community in Shock as Investigation Continues

As investigators continue to assess the incident, the Liverpool community remains shaken. What was meant to be a historic day of triumph has now been marred by tragedy.

Authorities are urging anyone with footage or information about the event to come forward to assist in the ongoing inquiry.
